ChattState Announces Fall 2024 Fine Arts Events Lineup

CHATTANOOGA, TN -- Chattanooga State Community College on Tuesday announced an exciting lineup of fine arts events that will take place during the Fall 2024 semester. The lineup includes art exhibits, recitals, the grand opening of the College's new Art Center, and two opportunities to catch a live theater show. Don't miss these exciting opportunities to see the work of ChattState's talented students and faculty members.

Art: Grand Opening of the Chattanooga State Art Center 

Time: Thursday, October 17, 4-6 p.m.
Location: Omniplex 130 

Join us for the Grand Opening of the Art Center at Chattanooga State Community College! Celebrate this vibrant addition to our campus, which is dedicated to showcasing professional and student art exhibitions while fostering student learning and creativity within our community. 

Art: Faculty Art Exhibit 

When: Thursday, October 17 through December
Location: Chattanooga State Art Center, Omniplex 130 

A selection of recent work from the Chattanooga State Visual Arts Faculty. Artworks will include painting, drawing, collage and transfer, gelatin silver and archival pigment prints, ceramics, sculpture, and installation.

Music: Faculty Recital

When: Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

The Chattanooga State Music Department faculty will present selections from the classical, contemporary, and American music repertories. Selections include works for voice, piano, guitar, and other instruments.

Theatre: Coffee for Miles by Lee Larson

When:

  • Saturday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 6 at 2:30 p.m.

Admission: Free for ChattState Students, Faculty/Staff, and Theatre Alumni; $10 General Admission, $5 or children 12 and under

This Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) play, written by recent ChattState graduate Lee Larson, is a charming story of an inchworm named Miles who goes on an adventure to get some delicious coffee and ends up discovering the beauty that already abounds in his life. This show will be directed by recent ChattState graduate Sam Gross and will feature performances from ChattState students and alumni. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for children 12 and under, and free for ChattState students, faculty, and staff.

Music: Happy Halloween Concert! Featuring the Symphonic Band and Concert Choir

When: Wednesday, October 30 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

Join Chattanooga State’s Symphonic Band and Concert Choir for their third annual Happy Halloween Concert. Wear your costumes and be ready to enjoy some spooky sights and sounds. The concert is free and open to the public, but please bring a canned good or other non-perishable food item to help support the Chattanooga Area Food Bank.

Music: Chattywampus Trio

When: Sunday, November 3 at 3 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

The faculty trio Chattywampus, led by flutist Cindy Solfest-Wallis, clarinetist Nicholas Hartline, and pianist Alan Nichols, will present an evening of chamber music from various musical periods and styles.  The concert will also feature student chamber musicians.

When: Monday, November 11 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

Chattanooga State students of vocal and instrumental applied study will perform a recital of selected musical works of the classical, contemporary, and traditional American repertories.

Theatre: Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl

  • Sunday, November 24 at 2:30 p.m.

Admission: Free for ChattState Students, Faculty, Staff, and Theatre Alumni; $15 General Admission

This play “reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine.” (Concord Theatricals). It will be directed by guest director Dylan Kussman and will feature performances from ChattState students, alumni, and members of the Chattanooga community. Eurydice is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc.

Music: Jazz Band Concert

When: Monday, November 25 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

The Chattanooga State Jazz Band will perform selected jazz standards under the musical direction of Jay Stanfill.

Music: Chad Miller Piano Recital

When: Monday, December 2 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Auditorium
Admission: Free

Chad Miller, graduating AFA Music student, will present a recital of great piano music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary Eras.  

Music: Cocoa and Carols featuring the Concert Choir and Chattanooga Clarinet Choir

When: Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

Come hear the music of your favorite Christmas movies and drink hot chocolate as we welcome the holiday season. Bring your phones to play movie trivia as Chattanooga State’s Concert Choir and the Chattanooga Clarinet Choir play familiar music from the silver screen.

Music: Soundscapes featuring the Symphonic Band

When: Friday, December 6 at 7 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

Join the Chattanooga State Symphonic Band for a colorful sonic ride through our natural world and beyond! The Symphonic Band is led by Nicholas Hartline and includes students from the college, the STEM School of Chattanooga, Collegiate High, and community volunteers.

Theatre: Semester Showcase

When: Tuesday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Location: Humanities Theatre

Come enjoy performances by acting and musical theater students and see showcases of work by design/tech students. Some scenes may include mature content not suitable for children. Admission is free and open to the public.
