How Give Day 2025 is Breaking Down Barriers to Student Success at Chattanooga State
April 22, 2025 | Payton Potter | College Advancement, Student Success

Every college journey looks different, but all students need support to succeed. At Chattanooga State Community College, Give Day 2025 proved just how much community support can do to help students thrive.
Held for the second year in a row, Give Day exceeded its goal of raising $50,000 from 250 donors, receiving $68,531 for vital student support programs from more than 396 donors. Give Day focused on four key priority areas: the Student Health Clinic, the Helping Hands Fund, SkillsUSA, and Athletics. These programs support student wellness, emergency needs, professional development, and team success—all cornerstones of a holistic college experience.
“Student success isn’t only about grades and graduation rates—it’s also about a community standing behind its students' education, personal development, health, and wellness,” said Suzanne Harris, Coordinator of College Advancement. “More than 300 supporters came together this Give Day to invest in our students. Their generosity allows us to take meaningful steps toward removing the barriers that might hold students back from reaching their full potential.”
Removing Barriers to Student Success
Many students at ChattState face challenges outside the classroom—whether it’s a lack of healthcare, a financial emergency, or the cost of traveling to represent the College at a competition.
- The Student Health Clinic, which opened this year, offers free care to students over 18. Gifts to this fund ensure ongoing access to basic healthcare, helping students stay healthy and in school. ChattState is proud to be home to the first student health clinic at a Tennessee community college.
- The Helping Hands Fund provides emergency aid up to $500 for students facing financial hardships that might otherwise derail their education. In 2024, the fund helped 96 students with over $28,000 in aid.
- SkillsUSA prepares career and technical students for success through competitive events, networking, and travel opportunities.
- The Athletics Program Fund helps student athletes cover costs for food, travel, and new equipment.
Each of these areas received a boost thanks to milestone gifts unlocked by donor participation. Unum gave $30,000, the Beacon Foundation gave $10,000, Byrd’s Automotive gave $2,000, and an anonymous donor gave another $1,500, totaling $43,500 to help the College reach its fundraising goals.
At the heart of Give Day 2025 is a shared belief: when barriers are removed, students can go further. Whether it’s providing a tank of gas, a medical checkup, or the chance to compete on a national stage, every gift matters.
Give Day is over for this year, but the mission continues and we will be back again for Give Day next year: save the date: Wed. April 1, 2026.
