Enrollment

Students will apply for admission for the fall semester cohort. Twenty students will be selected through a competitive admissions process for the Chemical Operator program. Twelve will be selected for the E&I and Mechanical Systems Technician program. Both programs require a special admissions application online at www.WACKER.com in addition to the regular college application. Acceptance into the college does not signify acceptance into the WACKER Apprentice program.

• All program classes are taught at the WACKER Institute on Chattanooga State’s main campus.
• Day class only
• Once selected, students will enroll in the required classes for each semester
• Students must maintain Chattanooga State and WACKER eligibility to continue in Apprentice Program.
• Students will be contacted to schedule an interview once the application process is completed.

Steps to Application and Admittance

Step 1: Attend an Information Session
Dates and times of information sessions vary. Please contact Chattanooga State’s Engineering Technology Division to schedule your information session (423) 697-4434.

Step 2: Apply for admission – Parts A & B
Note: Applicants must submit two (2) applications as shown in parts A & B
Part A: Apply to the College
Follow the steps at www.chattanoogastate.edu/admissions/apply. List major code as Chemical Engineering Technology (ETEC-CHE for Chemical Operator positions) or Mechatronic Engineering Systems Technology (ESYT-MES for Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance positions).
Part B: Apply to the WACKER Apprentice program
The program application will not be considered until the applicant is fully admitted to the college at college level. Please contact Chattanooga State’s Engineering Technology Division (423) 697-4434 or (423 )697-2496 for an application to the Wacker apprenticeship.

Step 3: Take the COMPASS Diagnostic test
WACKER Institute applicants must be at college level in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. To demonstrate proficiency in these areas, applicants must provide a current (within the past three years) ACT scores or SAT Scores or take the college COMPASS test. Minimum scores needed for each of these tests are listed below. Students who have attended college before may submit a college transcript that shows a passing grade of “C” or better in a mathematics course and a course that requires reading/writing (Composition, history, psychology, sociology, etc.) Chattanooga State offers the Residual ACT test and the COMPASS test for students who need to take either one for admission.

Step 4: Interview with the WACKER Apprenticeship interview team.
We are looking for Apprentices who are familiar with WACKER POLYSILICON, are committed to the two-year program and demonstrate a sincere desire to be part of the WACKER Apprentice Program. You also must have your own transportation to the WACKER facility in Charleston, Tennessee.

Step 5: Submit to a physical and background check through WACKER
Following the interview, students must complete a physical, drug screen and background check (paid for by WACKER) as one of the final steps in the admissions process. Applicants who do not pass the physical and background check will not be admitted to the program.

Step 5: Complete a Physical Assessment.
All students who successfully complete the interview, physical, drug screen and background check will be contacted to schedule a physical capabilities assessment.

Step 6: Apply for financial aid
All prospective students are encouraged to apply for financial aid as there are many grants and student loans available to students. Please remember that student loans must be repaid. To apply for financial aid, students must complete a FAFSA form at www.fafsa.gov. Chattanooga State’s code is: 003398. Below is a partial list of potential sources of financial aid.

Step 7: See an academic advisor in the Engineering Technology Division and pre-register for classes
Applicants selected for the Apprenticeship Program need to meet with an advisor in the Engineering Technology Division and register for classes using their A# and password by logging into TigerWeb (www.tigerweb.chattanoogastate.edu).

Step 8: Payment of tuition and fees
Payment must be made by the registration deadline to avoid having classes automatically dropped.

Step 9: Confirm your classes
Non-financial aid students’ classes are automatically confirmed once tuition and fees are paid. However, financial aid students must log into TigerWeb and confirm classes by applying the financial aid before the registration deadline.

Step 10: Obtain credentials
Chattanooga State students are required to have a Student ID and display a Parking Permit in their vehicle.
