Dental Assisting Admission Process and Educational Pathways

Acceptance:

Thirty-six (36) will be selected from the applicant pool based on a point system. These applicants will be offered admission to the fall class. Acceptance letters will be e-mailed by the first week of July. Any alternates will be notified as quickly as possible should an opening occur throughout the month of July. Those not accepted may reapply for the next fall.

Points are calculated using the Dental Assisting Points Calculator.

Dental Assisting Certificate Pathway:

Priority consideration will be given to those applicants who have successfully passed the following general education courses with the grade of “C” or better:

ENGL 1010
PSYC 1030
COMM 2025

Please note that completing these courses does not guarantee program acceptance.

Dental Assisting Associate of Applied Science Pathway:

Priority consideration will be given to those applicants who have successfully passed the following general education courses with the grade of “C” or better:

ENGL 1010
PSYC 1030
COMM 2025
BIOL 2010
BIOL 2020
MATH 1010 or 1530 (or higher)
HIMT 1300
Humanities/Fine Arts Directed Elective

There are three pathways to obtain the A.A.S. degree in Dental Assisting.

1. Traditional Pathway:

• Complete all general education courses by the end of the spring semester
• Apply to the Dental Assisting program by the June 15th application deadline. See Dental Assisting Application Checklist.
• Be accepted into and complete the Dental Assisting program courses to complete the degree.

2. Traditional Pathway:

• Be accepted into and complete the Dental Assisting program courses and have completed the general education courses in ENGL 1010, PSYC 1030, and COMM 2025.
• Continue taking the additional courses required to complete the degree.

3. Advanced Placement:

• The student is awarded 36 semester hours of advanced placement for holding a current state or national certification or registration as a result of graduation from a program that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
• Take all the necessary classes to complete the degree.
