Degree-Seeking Freshman

You are a Degree-Seeking Freshman applicant if:

  1. You have or will have earned a recognized regular high school diploma or high school equivalency (HSE) diploma by the start of your first semester at Chattanooga State
  2. and since graduating high school you have never enrolled in college,
  3. and you plan to obtain a college degree or certificate. 

Freshman applicants may also be eligible to receive financial aid.

Admissions Checklist for Degree-Seeking Freshmen

Check mark Official High School Transcript or High School Equivalency Exam Score (HiSET or GED)


Check mark Official ACT or SAT Test Scores (within the last 5 years)

If you do not have ACT or SAT scores you will be required to take the College Entrance Exam. After submitting your admissions application, you will receive further instructions regarding this exam.


Check mark Proof of U.S. Citizenship

You can verify your citizenship in one of the following ways:

  • Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for which the student's U.S. citizenship or eligible non-citizenship status is confirmed by the federal government.
  • Presenting a valid, unexpired, regular Tennessee driver license or photo identification (ID only) license. A Temporary TN Driver License or Temporary Identification License is NOT acceptable.
  • Presenting a valid, unexpired, Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551) with ID picture
  • A valid, unexpired, U.S. passport
  • A certificate of citizenship (N560 or N561)
  • A certificate of naturalization (N550, N570, or N578)
