Coronavirus Updates - April 9, 2020

Coronavirus info for webDear Chattanooga State Community, As we close in on the third week of learning and working in an online environment, I want to commend you on the great work you are doing - students, faculty, and staff. No one could have predicted or planned to make this shift to an online environment. However, we join colleges around the country in a temporary shift to virtual education due to COVID-19. I know this transition has presented its challenges for all of us. We are all adjusting to our new normal. I encourage you all to continue to practice patience, empathy, and grace during this period of time. Below are a few additional updates for this week.

Commencement Ceremony Update

Thank you to all who participated in our graduation survey. The overwhelming majority of survey participants voted to postpone the commencement ceremony. Therefore, we are exploring potential dates in early August. We will share the final details with you soon so that you may make plans. We look forward to celebrating your achievements with you in person.

Faculty/Staff Updates

With future state funding and enrollment numbers in a state of uncertainty, we will need to proceed very conservatively in our budget planning.  Revised budgets for both the current year and the proposed budget for FY 2020-21 will be due April 20. I will send an email to faculty and staff early next week with additional details.

In an effort to maintain social distancing and prevent the spread of COVID-19, faculty and staff are following an Alternative Work Schedule. The College is not on an administrative closing schedule, as is the case with a snow day. As such, employees are required to work from home where that is an option; to be on call when appropriate; or in limited situations, work from campus. In each of these cases, normal compensation policies will apply.
