Coronavirus Updates - April 22, 2020

coronavirus updates for webDear Chattanooga State Community, as mentioned in yesterday’s communication, Governor Lee has stated that his shelter-at-home order will expire April 30. Therefore, we are starting to plan for a phased-in return to campus. However, we will follow orders from local municipal leadership on when our return to campus will actually take place.  Please know that we will follow guidance provided by the CDC and local officials as we develop our plans.

TCAT Registration Update

  • Summer Semester
    • A decision about new student registration will be made on April 30.
    • Exceptions: Practical Nursing, Massage Therapy, and Truck Driving programs are presently enrolling new students.
  • Fall Semester
    • Fall registration begins May 1 for veterans, May 2 for returning students, and May 18 for new students. A PIN is not required for TCAT student registration.
    • New students that have unsatisfied testing requirements will conditionally register for their programs. Testing will still be required and can be completed when testing resumes on campus.

Return-to-Campus Planning

Following Governor Lee’s announcement relative to expiring the shelter-at-home order effective April 30, TBR asked all institutions to develop a phased-in plan for employees to return to campus beginning as early as May 4. Governor Lee’s announcement does not apply to several counties including Davidson, Hamilton, Knox, Madison, Shelby, and Sullivan counties. Given Hamilton County is excluded from Governor Lee’s announcement, our return-to-campus planning will be guided by our local city guidelines, local health department, and the CDC. We will continue to share information with you as it becomes available.

The return to campus planning has no impact on the previously communicated changes to the spring and summer terms. The remainder of the spring semester and at least the first summer term will continue to be taught in an online format.

I very much look forward to returning to campus and reuniting with our college family, and I want us to do that in the safest manner possible. If there is anything I have witnessed during this time, it is that the members of this college community truly care about one another. We will return to campus in a manner that demonstrates that care. We are truly in this together. You will get through this. We will get through this.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Ashford, Ed.D.
President
