Curriculum Details

The A.S degree Pre-Clinical Laboratory Science Program at Chattanooga State is designed to cover the first two years of course work for students planning for a B.S. degree in Medical Technology. (Students should check with an advisor for admission requirements at the degree granting institution to which they intend to transfer for the B.S. program.)

An entry level Medical Technologist will be proficient in performing laboratory tests in areas such as:

  • hematology
  • clinical chemistry
  • immunohematology
  • microbiology
  • serology/immunology
  • coagulation
  • molecular
  • and other emerging diagnostics

With a medical technology degree there is a wide variety of career choices available in:

  • hospitals
  • independent laboratories
  • health facilities

  • and commercial industry

According to the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) wage survey published in the March 2011 issue of LabMedicine, the national average annual salaries for staff level medical laboratory technologist is $54,412 per year and $65,478 per year at the supervisory level.
