Chattanooga State Hosts Forum for Congressional Candidates
January 13, 2010 | | Press Release
Chattanooga State Community College has extended an invitation to all of the candidates seeking election to the Tennessee District 3 congressional seat currently held by Zach Wamp and requested their participation in a special forum scheduled for Wednesday, January 27, at 11 a.m. Designed to be a community discussion, the event will be held in the Humanities Auditorium on Chattanooga State’s main campus located at 4501 Amnicola Highway. The public is welcome to attend free of charge.
Participating in the discourse are Tom Crangle, Chuck Fleischmann, Tim Gobble, Greg Goodwin, Van R. Irion, Art Rhodes, and Robin Smith.
Coordinated by Chattanooga State’s Student Government Association, the forum will provide a venue for students to pose questions to and interact with District 3 candidates. Responding to inquiries from a pre-selected panel of students, candidates will have the opportunity to share their perspectives and ideas as well as engage in a worthwhile and exceptional educational exercise.
Dr. Elaine Swafford, Chattanooga State’s vice president for Student Services, emphasizes the benefits students and candidates will gain by participating in the January 27th forum. “Chattanooga State’s student body represents the community-individuals who are working, living, and voting in District 3,” says Swafford. “Of course, the purpose of this program is to provide students with a meaningful and substantive experience, but conversely, the candidates can use this event to connect with people who are deeply interested in knowing them. The event is a win-win opportunity for everyone who participates.”
