Chattanooga State and McCallie School Announce Collaboration
January 12, 2009 | | Press Release
Chattanooga State Technical Community College and McCallie School announce the establishment of an early college/dual enrollment initiative for the students of McCallie School. McCallie School plans to offer dual enrollment classes beginning in January 2009.
The alliance between Chattanooga State and McCallie School is unique relative to the standard early college/dual enrollment model. The distinctive characteristic is that Chattanooga State will award college credit to McCallie students who simultaneously enroll in MCallie’s advanced placement classes and register in the college’s dual enrollment program. “Chattanooga State recognizes the rigor and strength of McCallie’s advanced placement curriculum as well as the exceptional quality of its faculty,” acknowledges Dr. Robert Denn, Chattanooga State’s director for early college and dual enrollment. “Establishing an early college program with McCallie is an exciting venture for Chattanooga State.”
"Credentialed faculty and challenging classroom expectations are the cornerstone to the early college/dual enrollment philosophy," emphasizes Dr. Denn. “McCallie has a reputation for academic excellence, which extends to its advanced placement program. We appreciate the school’s commitment to excellence and feel this collaboration could become a model for other colleges and independent schools.”
"This partnership offers distinct advantages to our students," said Dr. Kirk Walker, headmaster at McCallie School. "They will be earning college credit, which can be transferred to schools ranging from state universities to Ivy League institutions. Furthermore, the course fees are very reasonable, and our students will gain these added benefits while continuing with their regular AP coursework and under the guidance of McCallie faculty."
