May 10, 2013 | | Student Success

Tamya Favors says, “Taking the freshman course RI-100 helped me decide on a degree in chemical engineering technology.” RI-100 helps new students adjust to college life, increase study skills, and determine a career path. Initially she tried to work full-time while taking classes. However, when her grades began to slide, the 2009 high school graduate did some research and learned about the work-study program on campus. She was set to for to work at WACKER Polysilicon until the company scaled back construction on its new plant. Since her ultimate goal is to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Tanya plans to transfer to UTC to work on that degree until her job begins. Her mother, grandmother, son and other family member are all very proud of her.
