July 25, 2022 (Chattanooga, TN) --- Chattanooga State Community College is launching a new workforce development training to prepare individuals for a lucrative career in freight brokering. The 8-week Chattanooga Freight Broker Academy, offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, begins August 2 and ends September 22, 2022. Classes meet from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. ET.

Freight brokers serve as middlemen between shippers and carriers. Contracted by shippers, freight brokers facilitate the movement of goods from one place to another using motor carriers. Reducing complexity by finding drivers for shippers’ loads helps the shipper while keeping trucks on the road aids carriers and helps to provide new business leads.

Chattanooga State’s Chattanooga Freight Broker Academy will provide the opportunity for individuals to learn the skills needed to land a great career at some of Chattanooga’s largest companies. The ideal student will have an extroverted personality with a penchant for sales development. Students who complete the training will possess the knowledge to utilize the software necessary to be successful in this endeavor, giving the student an instant advantage for employment! The training will acquaint participants with the players in the industry to help create a career-changing opportunity.

“Although commission based, becoming a freight broker is an opportunity to earn a starting pay that is more than most people make after years at a company,” said Cynthia Brooks, lead program manager, Economic & Workforce Development office. “The workshop is tailored for full-time workers to take part in this training during non-traditional hours.”
