Chattanooga residents have a new option to earn college degrees. Thanks to a new dual admission partnership, you can start by earning an associate’s degree at Chattanooga State Community College, and then finish at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor’s degree.
Scholarship applications for the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters will be available beginning November 1 for current and incoming students. Chattanooga State and the Chattanooga State Foundation expect to award up to $1 million in scholarships to qualified students. Applicants who apply early will receive preference. TN Promise and Hope Scholarship recipients may also qualify for institutional scholarships. Students who will be enrolling in Fall 2017 should submit applications as early as possible.
Now celebrating its 5th year, the Chattanooga State Foundation’s Dinner of Firsts is the signature “FUNdraising” event for Chattanooga State Community College. Each year the College honors a community leader who is the first in their family to attend college. This year’s honoree is Edna Varner, a major advocate for public education and a first generation college student. Those roasting Edna include Pete Cooper, Wade Hinton, Stacy Lightfoot, Keith Sanford, and Elaine Swafford.
We are saddened to share the passing of Leonard Fant, a longtime Chattanooga State Foundation Board member and the co-creator of our annual Dinner of Firsts Scholarship benefit. Leonard passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
The 2014 Dinner of Firsts honoree, Leonard was roasted by his friend and singer/songwriter James Rogers with an original song entitled “Give it up for Leonard Fant!” We hope you enjoy this one-of-a-kind song honoring our one-of-a-kind friend:
The 2016 Athletic Hall of Fame reception was held on Thursday, Sept. 1, on the main campus of Chattanooga State Community College. This event celebrated the induction of distinguished alumni, coaches, staff and community sponsors.
Chattanooga State recognizes the contributions of extraordinary competitors:
On behalf of the newly formed Board of Directors for the Chattanooga State Alumni Association, we invite fellow alumni to please join us for our first-ever Alumni Roadshow.
The events are free to attend with complimentary hors d’oeuvres until we run out, plus you will be able to order from each establishment’s menu. Dr. Flora Tydings, President of Chattanooga State, will also be in attendance to share a few words regarding the state of the college and her vision for our alumni association.
If you attended our Dinner of Firsts scholarship benefit last year, you had the pleasure of hearing from one of our amazing First in the Family Scholarship recipients — Amanda Griffin (and if you missed it, you can see Dinner of Firsts 2015 highlights here.)
We hope you enjoy seeing our recent commercial featuring Amanda’s Success Story:
