I am grateful to Chattanooga State because it afforded me an opportunity to work at the college level and be a professor of students studying for a degree in higher education. This level of teaching and administration allowed me to make a difference for students preparing for their life’s work. It was a pleasure working with ALL of the presidents from 1966 to 1996 when I retired. Working at Chattanooga State gave me a chance to help grow Chattanooga State into the prestigious institution that it is today.
WDEF News 12’s May 28th “Point of View” show featured Chattanooga State’s Shannon Johnson, Director of our Michael P. Hennen Hospitality & Culinary Center:
“It’s been proven that where there is culinary schools and hospitality schools, the service in those areas increases dramatically, and with the rise in tourism here in Chattanooga — right now tourism is a one billion dollar a year industry — it gives us an opportunity to showcase the talents of Chattanooga. ” – Shannon Johnson, Director, Michael P. Hennen Hospitality & Culinary Center at Chattanooga State
Future filmmakers of Chattanooga take note: “This is the best program for aspiring filmmakers, hands down,” shares Chad Wilson, executive producer of film, ‘Hear Me.’ The ‘best program’ Chad refers to is the Professional Film and Television Training program (PFTT) at Chattanooga State Community College. The PFTT class recently won ‘Best 3-Minute Film’ at the Southeastern University Revolution Film Festival in Lakeland, Florida.

I am grateful to Chattanooga State for allowing me to work at such a fast pace. Collegiate High School allowed me to grow more academically and professionally than I ever thought possible.
The Chattanooga State Community College Veteran’s Support Center and the Theatre Department have partnered with The Telling Project, a national performing arts non-profit that employs theater to deepen the understanding of military and veterans’ experiences.
The Telling Project puts veterans and military family members in front of their communities to share their stories. Veterans and military family members are given the opportunity to speak, and their communities the opportunity to listen.
“Congratulations! Today is a day of celebration, accomplishment, and the end of one journey and the beginning of a new one,” said Mitch Patel, President & CEO of Vision Hospitality Group and 2016 Chattanooga State Commencement speaker. He encouraged graduates to find their passion. “When you have a passion for something, you will work harder, want to learn more, overcome obstacles and you will find success.”
You are invited to join the community discussion on improving student opportunities in Hamilton County.
Earlier this year, Chattanooga 2.0 released a report on the current state of public education and workforce development in Hamilton County. It quickly became clear that the situation requires bold action to improve the lives of our children and the communities we build around them.
Chattanooga has a history of taking action when the need arises – in reimagining our riverfront, creating the Gig City and building the Innovation District.
