David McBurnett always has his sights set higher. Even though he was already a captain with the Chattanooga Fire Department and an adjunct instructor at Chattanooga State in the EMT program, he wanted to further his education. He says “I have my certificate, but I wanted a degree in my field.” David worked full-time as the medical instructor for Chattanooga’s Fire Department and continued to teach part-time in Chattanooga State’s EMT program while attending school to earn an associate of applied science degree in emergency service supervision and administration. He plans to remain in the same job as he goes on to earn a Bachelor’s in Emergency Management with a minor in Homeland Security from Jacksonville State University in Alabama. He may possibly go on to earn a master’s degree. His wife, Carleen, is also a graduate this spring.
