The 2020‐2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened October 1, 2019. Students should seek assistance with completing the FAFSA early, before any looming priority deadlines for the upcoming year. “The sooner you can complete your FAFSA each year the better, since there are some types of financial aid that are first come, first served, and several scholarships and grants have FAFSA deadlines,” shares Reed Allison, director of Financial Aid.
FAFSA Frenzy assistance will be offered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays, October 10, 17, and 24, in the Chattanooga State Tiger Express lab located in the Student Center on the main campus. For rural students, visit the Dayton and Kimball sites for assistance during regular business hours.
Things to remember when you apply:
The 2020-2021 uses your 2018 tax and income information. It is recommended to use the “link to IRS” option to transfer this information directly from the IRS database into the FAFSA.
A parent/step-parent must accompany dependent students under age 24 to complete and sign the FAFSA.
To renew a FAFSA, the student and parent/step-parent must know their FAFSA ID and password. It can be reviewed at https://fsaid.ed.gov.
The myStudentAid mobile app for the FAFSA is now available for both iOS and Android allowing students to complete the FAFSA form on a mobile device with the same ease as on a laptop or desktop computer.
