John Germ Honored as Emeritus Board Member for Nearly Five Decades of Service to the Chattanooga State Foundation

Since 1977, John Germ has been a steadfast champion of education and opportunity through his service to the Chattanooga State Foundation. As one of the foundation's founding board members, Germ answered the call to address a critical need: creating pathways to higher education and workforce training for local students served by Chattanooga State Community College.

For nearly five decades, Germ's leadership has shaped countless initiatives, including groundbreaking fundraising efforts like the Health Science Campaign and the establishment of numerous scholarships—two of which bear his name. In 2015, ChattState recognized John as the first in his family to attend and graduate college at their annual Dinner of Firsts benefit for first-generation college students. He has inspired and empowered countless students to achieve their dreams.

“John Germ has been an advocate for Chattanooga State for 47 years and counting, impacting the lives of our students, their families, and the local workforce,” said Rowena Belcher, Board Chair of the Chattanooga State Foundation. “We are grateful for all he has done and will continue to do for Chattanooga State.”

Recently, the Chattanooga State Foundation recognized Germ’s extraordinary service by naming him an Emeritus Board Member, a fitting honor for someone whose influence has touched thousands of lives.
