Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Technical Certificate (AEMT) - Admission Process

Admission Process

The AEMT Training Program follows the 2009 National EMS Education Standards. Additional materials and skills required by the Tennessee Division of Emergency Medical Services are included.

AEMT Application Procedures

  1. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or a GED.
  2. Complete the Chattanooga State College Enrollment
  3. If you are currently in the EMT program: attend a required information session to proceed to the AEMT program.
    If you are not currently in the EMT program: If you are college level go to the required EMS Program Information Session. You will receive important information on the program acceptance process and the steps you will need to be accepted in the AEMT program.
  4. Submit AEMT Program application materials by the program deadline dates of January 15 or July 31 of each year.
  5. Applicant must either possess a valid TN EMT license or be within 120 days of graduation from an approved TN EMT course, and possess a valid National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT certification.

  • Copy of high school transcripts or GED scores
  • Copy of all college transcript with the exception of Chattanooga State transcripts
  • Copy of TN EMT License, if applicable

Note to applicants:​ AEMT applicants are selected on a first come-first serve basis.

  • It is the student’s responsibility to complete the Chattanooga State admissions process in order to get registered for an AEMT spot.
  • Failure to complete the required process for the AEMT program in the approved manner will result in AEMT slot being assigned to another student.
